HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach

HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach is one of three Hostelling International facilities on our list, and it is not even open all year - it is so popular, this summer-only hostel makes the cut. As the name implies, the hostel is a 20 minute bus ride from downtown Vancouver one short block away from beautiful sandy beaches and surrounded by forest and parks. This is for the traveler who wants the best of both worlds - the proximity of a fantastic city as well as the peace and quiet of a beach retreat.

All the rooms at HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach are dorm style, and all make use of shared bathroom facilities. The smallest dorms have three beds, and the largest sleep 14 people each. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly - the hostel fits right in with the folksy attitude that is prevalent in the area. Many of the attendees at the annual Jericho Folk Fest stay at the HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach, so be sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during the festival, as beds fill up fast.

To really get into the spirit of things at HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach, be sure to join one of the many city tours or excursions which depart from the hostel, including walking tours, sporting events and pub crawls. Or if you prefer to spend more of your time at the beach than in the city, there are walking and biking trails nearby as well as places to windsurf or kayak. Plus, the hostel has a wide selection of sports equipment you can use so you do not have to feel left out or bring your own!

The HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach is only open from May through September, so if this is the place you want to go, adjust your holiday accordingly and book early for a bed on the beach and in the city at the same time!
