Le Village

The Montmarte district is home to many hostels, including Le Village, but not every hostel manages to really soak in the artsy feel of the neighborhood itself. Le Village takes full advantage of its location, and is nearly as picturesque as the streets that surround it. The reception hall features exposed beams from the 19th century and a colorful fresco greets you when you arrive - all of this helps evoke the artistic atmosphere that made the Montmarte area famous.

Le Village is only two minutes from Montmarte’s lovely Sacre-Coeur Basilica, and many of the rooms in the hostel even have a view of the church. If your room does not have that coveted view, do not worry - the hostel’s terrace, which is a pleasant place to spend an evening or afternoon, has a great view of Sacre-Coeur. And anyone who is looking for the area’s nightlife should look no further than the nearby Pigalle neighborhood - home to the Moulin Rouge and plenty of bars, nightclubs and discos.

Every room at Le Village has a private en suite shower, toilet and telephone - even the dorms. But dorms here are unlike dorms elsewhere. You do not have to worry about crowding into a 10- or 12-bunk room at Le Village. The biggest rooms here have only 5 beds. And with amenities like free breakfast and a guest kitchen, it is possible to stretch your travel budget further.

Sure, Le Village has some limitations - there is a lockout from 11:00am until 4:00pm, but that is when you will be exploring Paris anyway, and it means they do not have to pay someone to staff the front desk 24 hours a day. Other ways they cut costs for themselves (and then pass the savings on to you) are that they do not provide bedding or towels - you bring your own or you can rent them, and they do not take credit cards. But even with these things in mind, Le Village is still one of the best places to stay in Paris. It is extremely affordable, and the people who run the hostel are very proud to be able to offer budget travelers a high level of service in an excellent location at such good prices.
